Buying a truck can be a large undertaking; if you run a small business it may be one of your biggest purchases if not the biggest. Even if you company is large, the need to replace a truck or add to your fleet requires some thought and financial planning.

Inevitably, one of the main decisions is whether you go for a new truck with new all singing, all dancing accessories or whether a good used truck will fulfil your needs. Once you have pinned down your needs, a search on the Internet on a second-hand truck website will save you time as it will quickly show you a wide range of trucks in the category and/or price range you have chosen.

If you are starting up a new venture then paying instalments on a new truck may be too much of a financial burden. A used truck will allow you to test the waters without too high a risk. Also ask yourself what you really need in terms of size, accessories and gadgets? It may be that you can get by with a small fairly simple used truck most of the time and rent a bigger more sophisticated truck only on the odd occasions that you need it.

Similarly a consideration of engine size is important; if you will often be driving a long way and/or regularly carrying heavy loads then a large engine may be worth it, but bear in mind that a larger engine will affect initial cost, fuel costs and probably repair and service costs.

You also need to think whether you regularly need towing capabilities and how many passenger seats you require. Consideration of all of these factors before you make a purchase could save you money, increase your profits and prevent a nagging feeling of regret at not having made the best decision you could.

Online purchase of a used truck is not really too different to more traditional modes of buying. In many ways it is just easier as you can get a wide range of information about a number of vehicles, including photos, right in front of you in your own home. You will still want to check age and mileage as well as service and maintenance records and how long the current M.O.T. is. If you are not satisfied with the information you find on the Internet then you can always find out if you can contact the seller by email or phone to ask for further clarifications on any specifics about the truck you are interested in.

Areas where you can increase your confidence in the process include consideration of brand and warranty. If you know a trusted truck making company with a reputation for quality and longevity in relation to their vehicles, then a slightly older truck from that company may still represent a good buy all other things considered. In addition many sellers of used trucks like Ford turck, Volvo truck, GMC truck,Dodge truck offer warranties, some extendable or expandable by paying more. With a warranty you can relax knowing that any unforeseen faults will be covered.

All About Trucks That We See Everyday

Written by Mehul Brahmbhatt on Nov 19th, 2008 | Filed under: Trucks

As you look at the highway, you will be able to see a variety of vehicles. Some are small others are big. In every automobile that you see running on the road, the big ones like the trucks are very important. Despite the fact that some of their variety is expensive, people still buy them because they help a lot in doing business (especially in manufacturing).

Trucks come in all sizes as well. However, they are usually bigger than the mainstream cars. Most of the trucks for sale are used for transporting goods from one location to another. These vehicles are termed as heavy. Popular ones that we see are used for logging; others for moving furniture, some are even used for collecting trash. Other vehicles are commonly used for construction, such as cement mixers and they are used to transport materials for buildings.

However, these vehicles come with a special purpose. If we want to use them for as our daily mode of transportation, you can go for SUVs truck or pick-up truck. You can use these great vehicles for city driving. They are modifiable too. Most people add truck lift kits on them to make them bigger or to have a better suspension.

Sports Utility Vehicles may look like minivan and they may not have the looks of a pick-up, but they are perfect for your passengers as they can really be comfortable for traveling. They are spacious and sometimes they are even high-tech. Most of them are four-wheel drive and despite the disadvantages that they are pointing out to this type of feature, it is commonly equipped with safety features. Nowadays, emergency features and ABS (Anti-lock braking system) have been adapted. Some are just what they call part-time meaning they do not have to be engaged at all times in a four-wheel drive. However, most of them are comfortable if you plan to have long hours of driving.

Pick-ups are also light versions of this vehicle. The rear end is open, so either it can be used as an added space to accommodate more passengers or it can be used as your cargo area. As your passengers take a ride at the back of this vehicle, they will have the same feeling that they get when riding on a top down, convertible.

Some use this for off-road adventure. However to use them in this kind of leisure, certain modifications are needed. The most important accessory that should be added is truck lift kits for suspension. These are composed of springs and shocks to improve clearance of the vehicle as they go past the uneven surfaces of the road. If you plan to have this kind of adventure, then you should consider taking this modification.

These lighter versions can be used for transportation too. If you are running a small business, they can also be used to carry goods but not as much as cargo forwarders can carry. Nevertheless, they can really be a great help to your business and they can be perfect for your passengers too.

Introducing Truck As Heavy Duty Vehicle

Written by Mehul Brahmbhatt on Nov 18th, 2008 | Filed under: Trucks

The word ‘truck’ is believed to be a derivative of Greek word – “trochos” which takes the meaning of a wheel. Lorry is yet another term used in this conjunction in United Kingdom whereas wagons with large wheels are known as trucks in North America. Pickup trucks, semi trucks, GMC trucks are the variants that are available. In countries like New Zealand and Australia a small vehicle with open back is known as ‘ute’ (abbreviated form of ‘utility vehicle’) or also known as pick-up. In the US only large vehicles used in commercial purposes are called as trucks.

The various important parts of the truck are the Engine, the Drive train and the frame.

Engine: An Engine forms the most important part of a truck as it decides the running capability of a truck and has to be carefully chosen to match the application for which the truck is intended to be used. Gasoline engines are generally used by small trucks like the pickups or SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) and also by the medium-duty trucks. However heavier trucks generally use four stroke turbo intercooler diesel engines and highway trucks employ locomotive-type engines which are either two-stroke or a V12 Detroit diesel engine. Most of the truck manufacturers in North America outsource the engine, whereas companies like Volvo and Mack Trucks use their own engines. Euro 5 regulations are complied with by all the truck engines in European nations in the interest of the environment.

Drive Train: Light duty trucks use transmission method similar to that of the cars which are either automatic or manual with synchornisers. Heavier trucks however use manual transmission without synchroniser that is less bulky. Crash boxes (transmissions without synchronizers) have a requirement of employing double clutching for every shift, called as “floating”. Generally North American setups include 9,10,13,15 and 18 speed levels. Semi-automatic or fully automatic transmission system is generally preferred to reduce the fuel consumption. In European market the gears may be of 8, 10 and 12 in case of manual transmission while for automatic transmission it might range anywhere between 5-12 gears. The trucks generally have range shift pattern in the gear system.

Frame: Two parallel boxed rails held together by cross members are the main composites of the frame of a truck. They may also be called as ladder frames since they resemble that of a ladder when tipped on end. Crossmembers are mostly attached to frame rails by using rivets or bolts, but sometimes may be welded in case of heavy duty application. The material used to make frame is generally steel but aluminium can also be a substitute to it.

Although trucks contribute to some pollution, they eject fewer air polluting emissions when compared to a car or any other vehicle, but still it contributes to a high level of sound pollution.
